Hi,

I am not able to find your "Notes" field when I open the "Field Chooser" to create my custom view.

I see one named "Notes" in "All document fields", but this one does not correspond to yours. Same thing in "Tasks" related fields.

Thanks for the support!

The B&W Notes field does not appear in the Field Chooser. The one you see in Field Chooser is Outlook's not B&W's.

To add the B&W Notes field to a Folder View,
  • click on the Bells & Whistles button on the B&W Toolbar,
  • click on Options,
  • click on the second tab (Alerts and Notes),
  • click on Enable Email Notes and on Show Notes Column on Current View (if these checkboxes are already checked, uncheck and re-check)
  • click OK
To edit the note of a particular email item:
  • click on Notes button in the B&W Toolbar.

Thanks Greg for the reply,

Those checkboxes was already checked, so I unchecked and checked them again without any result.

But, something I did was to create a custom view with my Inbox because when I installed Bells and Whistles, the Notes field appeared in my Inbox view.

So, this is what I do :
1- I apply my new view to the folder I want (Notes column does not appear)
2- I change focus to another folder
3- I click again to the previous folder and then Notes column is there

Now, the main reason of my post was to be able to group my emails by Notes. Even if Notes field does not appear in the field chooser, I can activate the Group by box feature and then drag and drop the new column.

Very nice! Exactly what I wanted!

Thanks for the update, 'yrochon'. I'm always using customised views and so your additional information is another little clue to the puzzle. I think the DS Development team now have enough to work on to solve the issues of:

(a) turning notes B&W notes on and off;
(b) making the checkboxes in B&W options reflect the status of notes in the current folder view.

I've been using B&W notes for comments but had not tried sorting by that field, chiefly because I assumed it was a 'virtual' field and that Outlook would not be able to work with it. For sorting, I've been puting my sort keys in the editable Outlook field Billing Information. Knowing that I can sort on notes as well is a bonus.

I've been doing a lot of work on customised folder views in Outlook 2003 recently and after I've cracked a few more mysteries intend to write a paper. I'll let you know when it's ready.
