For some reason, after upgrade to v4 - when I reply to an email, the "Hi John," shows up in yellow font..? I have no idea why. I see that I can specify it, but I would think it should default to the outlook default, which is a blue color not on the list. What can I do to fix it?

Hello,

We apologize for any inconvenience this caused.
You can change the greeting text's color from the greeting settings screen -> check the box next to Format text style -> define your desired color.

Could you please give us a little more info on this, so we can fix it in a future release? What version of Outlook are you running? Did you define a custom greeting text color in v3? Was that custom color changed to yellow after the upgrade? Please include any info you consider useful, and we'll issue an update as soon as possible.

We are looking forward to your reply.

hi Andrew,
i am sure this is a new feature in version 4? (this is referring to the greeting setting - not the reply setting which was in V3)
so no settings to flow through from v3

i am using outlook 2010 on a windows 7 pc

if i leave the format text style unchecked then i get the yellow font.
i have to check the format text style to force a colour.

i would expect that if i left this unchecked, then it would be controlled by the outlook stationery/font settings

Windows 7 32-bit and Outlook 2010.

I had installed the previous version in Outlook 2010, even though it wasn't compatible, and it was working correctly. But after installation of the new version, it seemed to break it. The color choice is available through Bells & Whistles, however, same color choices are not available as what it available as a default color in Outlook.

Could you please send us ALL the files located in C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\DS Development\BW (on Microsoft Windows Vista or 7) or
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\Application Data\ DS Development\BW (on Microsoft Windows XP) so we can get a better idea about why this is happening?

Don't post them on this thread, please click the "Contact Support" button in B&W or just email us at support@emailaddressmanager.com.
Please archive them before sending.

Thank you very much, we'll have a look at it and see what's causing this behavior.

I will contact you immediately afterwards by email. ;)

I've also just sent mine in - please let me know as soon as you get a solution on it.

On another interesting note - I have another identical PC, that this does not happen on.

It's identical to the Dell laptop model, OS, verisons, etc.

i think i found the cause.
can you check this.

in your outlook settings, the setting that is causing the problem is

File – options – mail – signatures and stationery
If I have a colour set for replying and forwarding messages
I get a yellow greeting. It doesn’t matter what colour I choose for replying and forwarding messages, the B&W greeting is inserted as yellow.

If I have this colour set to auto colour (black) then the B&W greeting is also black.

i tried this on 2 separate PC's.
it would be interesting to see if the same is true for you.

Thank you both very much! We had a hard time getting to the bottom of it because it didn’t happen on any of our computers (and we tested it many times, on different configurations).
Unfortunately, this seems to be a bug from Outlook, going waaay back to the 2003 version – just do a Google search for “outlook reply yellow”. It seems that Outlook inserts a “font color = yellow” tag on the greeting text (or the signature) all by itself! This is not inserted by B&W for sure (since B&W uses a different kind of tags) and I don’t know how we can correct it (since we can’t make changes to Outlook itself).

We will try to find a workaround and will inform you of our results.
Again, thank you very much for the effort!

After working via email with Robert - we found that the problem actually has nothing to do with BW.. the problem is actually Outlook.

I reinstalled Outlook 2010, and it immediately fixed the problem.

For reinstall, go to the Office 2010 website and download the trial. Then, enter your COA to activate. That's what I did, and now BW works perfectly.

Thanks again, Robert. You were quite helpful, even though this was obviously not a programming problem on your end, but rather a weirdness from Outlook.

are you saying that you just reinstalled outlook over the existing version and it rectifired the problem?

so for some reason if you install outlook with B&W already installed the issue doesn't arise?
worth trying i guess

It would be great if the font choice for grettings and so on had more color options instead of just the default block colors that are available.
